About Mary Todd Lincoln

Mary Todd Lincoln (December 13, 1818 – July 16, 1882) was a remarkable woman who has only recently been recognized for her intelligence, acumen and diplomacy. History now pays homage to a great lady who helped her husband recognize his potential. Mary was to Abe what Hillary is to Bill and Eleanor was to Franklin.

Mary was born into a well-to-do Kentucky family with a long history of political involvement. She received a superior education and excelled in her studies. She was inherently charming and schooled in all the social graces.

No one on Aristocracy Hill understood what attracted Mary Todd to the gawky lawyer from Illinois who had only a year of formal education. But Mary knew what she wanted and she wanted Abraham Lincoln. She and Lincoln were madly attracted to one another. They shared many interests and goals. And she was fluent in his favorite subject, politics.
